A Cozy Classic: Our Favorite Banana Bread + How to Serve It with Style

There’s something timeless about a simple slice of banana bread. Maybe it’s the comforting scent wafting through the kitchen… or the way it feels just right with a soft morning light and a warm cup of tea.

At The Antique Yard, we believe everyday moments are worth dressing up — not just for guests, but for ourselves. So today, we’re sharing our go-to banana bread recipe, along with beautiful ways to serve it using vintage and antique pieces that bring the charm.

Soft, moist, with golden edges and rich banana flavor — a staple for every French country kitchen.

🥄 Ingredients:

·       4 bananas, mashed

·       1/2 cup melted butter

·       1/2 cup brown sugar

·       1 egg

·       1 tsp vanilla extract

·       1 tsp baking soda

·       1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

·       Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, dark chocolate chips, a swirl of cinnamon sugar on top, blueberries, raspberries, lemon juice

·       Sprinkle of sugar for the topping

We prepared two banana bread recipes! One featured add ins of walnuts and chopped apples - the other featured a cup of blueberries and 2 tbsp of lemon juice. Both turned out lovely!

🥣 Instructions:

1.     Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

2.     In a large mixing bowl, mash bananas with a fork until smooth.

3.     Stir in melted butter.

4.     Mix in sugar, egg, and vanilla.

5.     Sprinkle baking soda, then stir in.

6.     Add flour, and mix until just combined. Don’t over-mix.

7.     Fold in nuts, chocolate, or blueberries, raspberries, lemon juice if using!

8.     Pour into a buttered 8x4-inch pan (or line with parchment).

9.     Sprinkle with sugar for an extra sweetness and crunch!

10.  Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

11.  Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool.

How to Serve It with Style

The beauty of this simple bake is how easily it becomes a moment of indulgence when paired with timeless serveware. Here’s how we like to serve it, French cottage style:

1. On a Vintage Ironstone Platter

There’s nothing more charming than serving rustic baked goods on an old white ironstone piece. The contrast of rich golden bread on worn porcelain? Oui, please.

Style Tip: Add a linen napkin or lace doily underneath for extra softness and texture.

2. With a Cup of Tea in an Antique Teacup

Warm banana bread pairs beautifully with a subtle black or herbal tea. Serve it in your favorite antique teacup — bonus points for floral or gilded details.

Pro Tip: Display the teapot on a silver tray alongside vintage sugar tongs and a small honey pot for a full teatime moment.

Bring the Beauty to Your Table

Banana bread is humble, nostalgic, and comforting — everything we love about home. And when served with vintage charm, it becomes more than a snack. It becomes a ritual. A memory in the making.
